Shock absorbers aren't just there to make your journey comfortable
Their main purpose is to keep the tyre in contact with the road at all times. This makes steering, braking, and the overall handling of the car possible. Shock absorbers work along-side your car's suspension. As you drive over bumps the springs compress and spring out again. The shock absorbers 'dampen' or absorb this spring effect and stop your car from bouncing.
You can test your shock absorbers yourself
If you push down on one corner of your car. See how many times it bounces. Once is okay, but any more than once means there could be a problem and we recommend you have your shocks absorbers checked immediately. At Central Tyre we'll be happy to do this for you.
Shock absorbers have an influence on braking
Driving on worn out shock absorbers can dramatically affect braking distances. At only 30mph, braking distances can be increased by as much as 8.5 feet. Thats over 2 metres. And possibly the difference between stopping safely and having an accident. |
